Personality Kelly is shy, but she wishes that wasn't the case. Although she is normally nervous and pessimistic, she has an adventurous and even confident side, especially when she's playing her guitar. Her friends sometimes get annoyed by her cautious nature, but they've come to accept that about her. They also respect her good qualities like her passion for music and her creativity.

Kelly is loyal and loves the few close friends she does have. She rarely clicks with people on a deeper level, because she pushes people away more often than she lets them in. She prefers having one or two close friends over having a lot of surface level acquaintances. Her tendency to put all her eggs in one basket in terms of friendships can also be one of her worst qualities, because those friendships can get intense and codependent very quickly.

Kelly is insecure and struggles with poor self image. She admires when her friends are outgoing and speak their minds, but she doesn't see herself ever becoming "that cool". Other students describe her as a pushover who keeps her head down, but she does keep a surprising amount of anger bottled up, and it can come out at interesting times.

Background Kelly's family relocated a lot throughout her early life, and they moved to Philadelphia during her young childhood. Kelly hated moving. In school, she always thought of herself as an outsider, but it wasn't that people didn't like her. In fact, she was relatively agreeable, so no one had anything to dislike about her. It was more that she didn't put herself out there for long enough for anyone to like her either.

Her parents didn't approve of the kinds of things she was into, especially the music she liked. They weren't tolerant of people who differed from their rigid ideal of the "perfect" American nuclear family. For example, when Kelly realized she was a lesbian, they were not accepting of that fact. Her parents divorced sometime before she started high school.

Kelly's one true love is and always has been music and her guitar. She always found it easier to express herself through that than actually talking to people. Nothing good ever seemed permanent for her, but she has always had her music, and it's gotten her through every hard thing that's happened to her.

Meta Info What I consider "canon" about Kelly is sort of loose. She's the kind of character I can just put into whatever setting or universe I want. Also I will likely rewrite the backstory section soon lol! Every time I look at it I realize it's outdated xD
